Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) blames the United States for North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. Speaking in response to the Hawaiian government’s bogus ballistic missile warning on Saturday that terrified residents and tourists, Gabbard blamed the U.S. in comments to ABC News on Sunday morning and expounded later on Twitter, saying, “We’ve got to understand that North Korea is holding onto these nuclear weapons because they think it is their only protection from the United States coming in and doing to them what the United States has done to so many countries throughout history.”

In the video clip of her interview on ABC News’ This Week that Gabbard posted, she cites the U.S. overthrowing the tyrannical dictatorial governments of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein and Libya’s Moammar Gaddafi as examples of why the North Korean communist Kim dynasty regime has nuclear weapons.
ABC reported her comments, ““We’ve got to understand why Kim Jong Un is saying he’s not going to give up his nuclear weapons. Our country’s history of regime-change wars has led countries like North Korea to develop and hold on to these nuclear weapons because they see it as their only deterrent against regime change.”
That North Korea has been working on acquiring nuclear weapons for decades before Hussein and Gaddafi were overthrown completely undermines Gabbard’s ‘blame America first’ position.
There is also the issue of what Gabbard means by “doing to them what the United States has done to so many countries throughout history.”
While the results of recent efforts have been drawn-out due to a lack of political will to completely vanquish the enemy, the United States in the past 100 years has liberated Europe twice from Germany and its allies, liberated the Pacific from Japan, contained the spread of communism in Asia to a few countries, liberated Eastern Europe from communism, overthrown dictators in Grenada and Central America (after propping some of them up) liberated Kuwait, overthrew the Taliban government of Afghanistan, liberated Iraq and overthrew Gaddafi.
Gabbard is a veteran, but as has been shown in recent history, the Democrat Party is home to Leftist ‘blame America first’ veterans like John Kerry.
Gabbard is calling on President Trump to meet face to face with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un without conditions (not even getting the USS Pueblo back as a sign of good faith by North Korea?)
“I’ve been calling on President Trump to directly negotiate with North Korea without preconditions, to sit across the table from Kim Jong-un, work out the differences so that we can build a pathway towards denuclearization to remove this threat…We need to send a credible message that we’re not interested in overthrowing your government, we’re interested in removing this nuclear threat from our country and the world.”

And of course, Gabbard blamed President Trump:
“Donald Trump is taking too long. Now is not the time for posturing. He must take this threat seriously and begin direct talks with North Korea, without preconditions, to de-escalate and denuclearize the Korean peninsula. There is no time to waste.”

President Trump has waged the most aggressive diplomatic campaign against North Korea in decades following the failures of his predecessors Obama, Bush and Clinton.
Perhaps Gabbard does not remember that North Korea, which was the aggressor in the Korean War, has violated every agreement made to stop or limit its nuclear programs.
