Rep. Trey Gowdy to Mueller Attackers: BACK OFF!

- Januari 29, 2018

Good for him.

Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy broke with Fox News’ usual narrative and spoke some commonsense to the viewers.

Not only does Gowdy have “100 percent confidence” in special counsel Robert Mueller and his ability to carry out a fair and just investigation, but maybe all those Trump sycophants in government positions need to back off.

“I think he’s got a fair prosecutor in Bob Mueller, but I don’t think he’s got a fair jury,” Gowdy said on “Fox News Sunday,” referring to President Trump.

“Mueller didn’t raise his hand and say ‘pick me,’” Gowdy added. “We as a country asked him to do this.”

He’s right.

Think about it: If Mueller was out to get President Trump, when the need for a special counsel arose, wouldn’t he have elbowed his way to the front and requested to be assigned?

That’s not what happened.

After Attorney General Jeff Sessions came under scrutiny for not revealing some communications with the Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak, in the interest of avoiding any potential conflicts of interest, he stepped away from the Justice Department’s part in the ongoing Russia probe, leaving that to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Rosenstein saw a need for a special counsel and sought out Robert Mueller – a move that received bipartisan praise, at the time.

Some Republican lawmakers have become panicky and strident, as the intensity of Mueller’s investigation has picked up.

After discovering that the FBI is made up of actual human beings and not badges with legs, some Republican lawmakers have lost it.

Unflattering texts shared between FBI agent Peter Strzok and his mistress, FBI attorney Lisa Page have served as the tinder for some Republicans to call for a burning down of the Justice Department, the FBI, and Mueller.

The texts showed that Strzok and Page were definitely not Trump fans.

Strzok was removed from Mueller’s team in July, when the texts were discovered.

There’s also a super-secret memo, cobbled together by Rep. Devin Nunes and his staff, that supposedly proves that the FBI were on a mission to bring down Trump, at the orders of former President Barack Obama.

Some Republican lawmakers, including Gowdy, are calling for the release of that super-secret memo, but the DOJ and FBI are requesting to review the memo first, as they fear some of the material included could put national security at risk.

Then there are several months worth of lost, but supposedly now found texts between Strzok and Page that some hysterical loyalists believe will further support their position.

Gowdy says calm down.

“Republicans would be well served, let the texts speak for themselves, let the jury make up their mind and quit engaging in hyperbole, which we seem to do a lot,” Gowdy said.

It might be easier to do, if President Trump wasn’t pushing the “witch hunt” narrative, but he is. For some reason, he needs his base to stay enraged, and there are some lawmakers helping him.

Helping him – not our nation.
