On Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper reported Coral Springs Police Chief Anthony Pustizzi sent a department-wide email amid frustration that the Broward Sheriff’s Office had not acknowledged his agency responded first to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

While the Broward Sheriff’s Office has handled the forensic investigation into the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting last week, it was another police agency’s officers that were the first to rush into the building to save those who had been shot.
About 130 cops from the Coral Springs Police Department responded to the shooting at the school, which borders the city and is about three miles from the station, Police Chief Anthony Pustizzi told Local 10 News in an exclusive interview.
Roughly 40 of those officers rushed into the building, where 23 victims were carried out to medics. Of those victims, 20 survived, the chief said. […]
“I’ve been a police officer for 30 years,” Pustizzi said at a press conference following the interview. “You know, humans aren’t meant to see this kind of tragedy, but the officers that went in there, the dispatchers that heard it, the firemen that treated the people — you know, there’s obviously a lot of support that needs to be given to them, as well.”
On top of failing to give proper credit to Coral Springs Police, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is currently investigating why a school resource officer failed to act during the shooting.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel on Thursday said he was suspended without pay the school resource officer who was at the Parkland school where 17 people were shot dead.
Israel said school resource officer Scot Peterson took a position outside of the school but “never went in” as the onslaught occurred, citing security footage.
“In the case of Scot Peterson, our school resource deputy, I want to clarify any rumors conjecture or stories that may have been out there,” Israel said.
Israel said Peterson was “absolutely on campus,” adding that he was armed and in uniform during the shooting.
Israel said he decided to suspend Peterson without pay pending an investigation, but Peterson decided to resign.

As noted above, school resource officer Scott Peterson quit when an investigation was opened up into his conduct. Sheriff Israel said video and witnesses show that Peterson was outside the SE corner of the building and "clearly" could her gunshots.
