Ahhh, Hollywood… It’s the land of the disappointingly, breathtakingly empty-headed (such as here and here).
However, every now and then, a story comes along that heartwarmingly offers hope in the area of IQ among Tinseltown’s stars (please here and here).
This is not one of those stories.
For me, Jim Carrey was once a great thing. I have no idea what kind of person he was, but as a “thing,” he was fantastic.
The actor brought a fresh, elastic energy to television sketch comedy in the 1990’s, making a name for himself on In Living Color with unhinged characters such as Fire Marshal Bill. As Ace Ventura, Carrey struck gold on the silver screen, turning a low-paying (by Hollywood standards) opportunity into a ticket to cinematic stardom. Dumb & Dumber killed at the box office, and Jim was christened a verified movie star.
But a lot has happened since Carrey played a moron in the seminal hit opposite Jeff Daniels. Call it “art imitating life” — he played it, now he is it.
I truly wonder what causes a Hollywood fixture to think, “I’m good at saying words someone told me to say while standing on a taped X in clothes somebody put on me…hot DOG — I bet I have the intellect and deep understanding of planetary complexities such that I should step up and fix the world!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Whatever disease that is, Carrey certainly hasn’t been wearing a medical mask; he’s infected, and it’s an ugly sickness to see.
No longer content to make movies with universal appeal, the fallen star has taken to cranking out statements which simultaneously A) make him look humiliatingly ill-informed, and B) make at least half the country heavily lose their affection for him.
Bad move, Lloyd.
Jim’s transition from comedic genius to political goob presently includes a grimace-inducing artistic comment on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The former Bush White House staff secretary hasn’t been shown to have committed any wrongdoing, despite two women claiming he engaged in sexual mischief, one episode each, in high school and college. Over three decades ago.
Nevertheless, the most daft among the Left have responded with embarrassingly ludicrous and inexcusably slanderous statements against Kavanaugh. Not to be outdone — one might say, following the paradigm of Dumb & Dumber, whereby the idiocy of one is topped by another — Carrey took to Twitter to speak ignorance to the world, complete with an original art piece which jaw-droppingly portrays the SCOTUS nominee in a way for which there is absolutely zero basis:
“Colleges care more about donors than the victims of on-campus rape. That’s why women don’t report it and why ENTITLED LITTLE SHITS like Injustice Kavanaugh get to party and pillage their way to the Supreme Court.I’d like to suggest a new uniform for the highest court in the land.”

Why, Jim? Why????
This latest revolt against sense stands in stark contrast to the relatively reasonable statement Carrey recently made on Real Time with Bill Maher. To be fair, the comment was placed among other sentences betraying daftness (as covered here), but still:
“[I]f anything — if anything, we’ve got to get back to a place where we realize that a vote is not who you are. And because you voted Republican, you’re not stupid, you’re not different, you’re not worthless. You know? I could break bread with anybody who voted for Trump. We could find some common ground to love each other.”
Presumably, that would be “break bread with anybody but Brett Kavanaugh” (if he cast his vote for The Donald)?
Carrey isn’t following his own rules. But I so wish he were.
He seems to have forgotten the directive he gave on Maher’s show:
“Just stop doing stupid sh*t.”
