AG Jeff Sessions; Special Prosecutor John Huber
Last Fall, Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointed Special Prosecutor John Huber to investigate whether the FBI abused its power when it obtained a FISA warrant and three subsequent renewals on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page.
One year later and Huber has not interviewed any key witnesses.
GOP lawmakers such as Rep. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan said they have not received any updates on Huber’s investigation.
Furthermore, according to Congressman Meadows, there is no evidence John Huber has done anything other than be appointed by Jeff Sessions.
Meadows says he wants Huber to appear before Congress to answer questions and give updates.
The Washington Times reported:
Likely witnesses tell The Washington Times that they haven’t heard from him, though they are eager to tell what they know.
Nor has Mr. Huber kept congressional overseers in the loop on his activities.
“I would just like to know what he’s doing,” Rep. Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, told The Times. “I’ll take anything. All I know is that we haven’t heard a single thing about what he’s doing.”
Mr. Jordan, a member of the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees, said those panels have not received any reports or updates from Mr. Huber since his appointment. He and Rep. Mark Meadows, North Carolina Republican, sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week asking for an update.
Mr. Meadows told The Times it is imperative that Mr. Huber appear before Congress to detail what he has been doing.
“I have not seen a lot of evidence that Mr. Huber has done anything other than be appointed by Jeff Sessions,” he said. “It’s been portrayed that he’s making great progress, but I’m not sure there is a whole lot to show for it other than rhetoric right now. I’m not aware of any substantial work that he’s doing.”
U.S. Attorney John Huber was first appointed to his position by Barack Obama in 2015.
Top conservative voices previously expressed their disappointment with Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to forgo a second special counsel.
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows said in a tweet: “So the Obama DOJ can open a legally questionable investigation into the Trump campaign—allegedly based on a campaign volunteer mouthing off at a London bar—but this DOJ can’t appoint a second special counsel after all the troubling documents we’ve seen? Disappointing.”
President of Judicial Watch Tom Fitton said in a tweet: “Major fail from DOJ! AG Sessions writes he tasked a lawyer to investigate whether to investigate the Clinton/Obama abuses! No wonder @RealDonaldTrump is frustrated.”
Huber hasn’t interviewed twice-demoted DOJ official Bruce Ohr either, a witness who is at the center of the FISA abuses. That’s all you need to know.
Mueller hasn't interviewed Bruce Ohr, but apparently JOHN HUBER hasn't either, even though Huber was tapped by Sessions to investigate the FISA abuses. More reason to wonder how effective a US attorney can be cleaning up corruption in Washington when he's based in Salt Lake City
