The Comstock, Texas, Independent School District, located near the Mexican border placed their lone school on lockdown Tuesday following a warning from Border Patrol agents that a group of illegal aliens was seen near the school, according to a spokeswoman for the district. The Comstock school is K-12. A message was sent to parents Tuesday morning about the lockdown. UPDATE AT END: School still on lockdown.
The border there is wide open. Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) who represents that area in Congress is adamantly opposed to President Trump’s call for a border wall. He retweeted this 2017 video opposing a wall during the recent government shutdown over funding for a border wall.
We can have a more secure border with a #SmartWall at a fraction of the cost of a physical wall – that can be implemented within a year. pic.twitter.com/zTiCty8tH1

The sighting of the group of illegal aliens comes as about 2,000 caravan migrants are massed on the other side of the Rio Grande in the border city of Piedras Negras after being bused there by Mexican officials. There is a large law enforcement presence on either side of the border. Mexican riot police have been deployed to the site where the caravan migrants are being held for processing, while on the U.S. side Border Patrol is being augmented by other federal agencies and Texas law enforcement.
An alarmed parent posted a copy of the school’s message to Twitter. The message, which was confirmed by the spokeswoman, reads:
“Comstock Students, Staff and Parents: There is a group of illegal aliens south of Comstock that the Border Patrol are pursuing. As a precaution, we are locking all outside doors. All students passing between buildings will be accompanied by an adult. Your children are safe. We will alert you should the status change.”

An update posted by concerned mother Sharree Bopp, the school is still on lockdown:
“Emergency lockdown/Contacts: There has been no change in our status here at the school. We are in communication with the Border Patrol. As soon as the situation changes we will advise you. Your children are safe, and no one is allowed outside, except necessary traffic between buildings with adults.”
“Emergency lockdown/Contacts: Buses will run at the regular time today. The only reason for locking our outside doors today is only as a precaution. All classes and activities are taking place as they normally would. We simply do not want anyone walking into a building that is not authorized.”
