Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke has confirmed that he is running for president in 2020.
At this point, it may be easier to list popular Democrats who aren’t throwing their hat in the ring.
The former El Paso Congressman confirmed his intention to run to local news network KTSM via text message — and said that he intends to make a formal announcement on Thursday.
“I’m really proud of what El Paso did and what El Paso represents,” O’Rourke said in the text. “It’s a big part of why I’m running. This city is the best example of this country at its best.”
Ever been around someone thats been up for days doing bad cocaine, speed and weed (to even out the jitters)? If you haven’t it’s a lot like @BetoORourke : a sweaty dude bouncing around saying random shit pretending it’s the most profound thing ever heard. pic.twitter.com/sOlx27W52g

In a Vanity Fair puff piece that was published prior to his confirmation, O’Rourke acknowledged that a white dude may have some problems running in the identity-obsessed Democratic Party’s primary.
“The government at all levels is overly represented by white men,” he says. “That’s part of the problem, and I’m a white man. So if I were to run, I think it’s just so important that those who would comprise my team looked like this country. If I were to run, if I were to win, that my administration looks like this country. It’s the only way I know to meet that challenge.”
“But I totally understand people who will make a decision based on the fact that almost every single one of our presidents has been a white man, and they want something different for this country. And I think that’s a very legitimate basis upon which to make a decision. Especially in the fact that there are some really great candidates out there right now.”
