Richard Seeborg, a federal judge for the Northern District of California ruled against the Trump administration Wednesday, blocking a question on citizenship to the 2020 census.
Judge Seeborg, an Obama appointee, said Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross fell short of offering a valid reason to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, claiming it “threatens the very foundation of our democratic system.”
“Secretary Ross’s reliance on Voting Rights Act enforcement to justify inclusion of the citizenship question was mere pretext and the definition of an arbitrary and capricious governmental act,” the judge wrote in his ruling.
“Moreover, Secretary Ross’s conclusion that adding the citizenship question would enable the Census Bureau to obtain more ‘complete and accurate data’ in response to the Justice Department’s request is not only unsupported, it is directly contradicted by the scientific analysis contained in the Administrative Record,” Seeborg continued.
As expected, radical open borders California Attorney General Xavier Becerra celebrated the ruling, reported The Hill.
“Justice has prevailed for each and every Californian who should raise their hands to be counted in the 2020 Census without being discouraged by a citizenship question,” Becerra said.
“We celebrate this ruling, an important step in protecting billions of dollars meant for critical services Californians rely on, from education, to public health and safety. And we will ardently defend this important judgment to safeguard fairness in funding and representation for California and its local communities,” he added.
Of course Democrats don’t want the citizenship question on the census because it’s another way for them to count illegal aliens as American citizens.
Illegal aliens being counted in the census means more federal money for states and since population determines how many Representatives are appointed to the state, illegal aliens are given tremendous political power even if they don’t vote.
Richard Seeborg is the second judge to rule against the Trump Administration’s decision to add citizenship to the next census, a population count that occurs every ten years.
Last month the Supreme Court agreed to review the decision.
