Makers of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Comic Book Get Cease and Desist Letter From DC Comics

- Mei 19, 2019

DC Comics has sent a cease and desist letter to Devil’s Due Comics over their depiction of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as Wonder Woman in their new comic Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez & The Freedom Force: New Party, Who Dis?

The Carla Cohen artwork at issue was featured on a special exclusive retailer variant cover for NY Collector Cave. There were only 250 copies produced.

The artwork portrays Ocasio-Cortez, draped in a flag, dressed in the heroine’s signature costume. The only difference is that there is an “A” on her chest where the “W” would normally be.

DC does not only want the production of this comic to cease — they also want the existing ones not to be distributed, issues already sold to be recalled and remaining copies to be destroyed.

“The cover, however, had already been printed, so while 250 won’t be available, there will be some to get your hands on if you want them, but do expect the price to jump. The cover was originally sold for $30 by NY Collector Cave and then jumped to $40 from several sellers on eBay. It jumped again to $70 on eBay, and you can bet it will make another jump over the next week or so,” ComicBook.com reports.

There are already currently issues of the exclusive cover on eBay ranging from $399 to $999 — or best offer.

“It’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the ‘Freshmen Force’ (of Congress) vs. the establishment in this all-new special! Comic creators converge to celebrate the election of the most diverse group of freshman Representatives in history, and spare no-one in this satire that takes aim at Washington,” the Devil’s Due description of the comic reads.

This isn’t the first time Devil’s Due Comics has dabbled in politics. They previously released a comic book in honor of former-President Barack Obama, titled Barack the Barbarian: No F#¢*s Left!, as well as one titled Talk Bernie to Me.
