President Trump’s lead attorney Jay Sekulow on Tuesday night responded to the news Mueller will be publicly testifying to Congress on July 17.
Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will testify before an open joint House committee hearing on July 17 following issuance of a subpoena compelling his appearance, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee announced Tuesday night, TGP’s Kristinn Taylor reported.
“I am pleased to announce that House Judiciary and House Intel will have Special Counsel Robert Mueller testify in open session on July 17, pursuant to a subpoena issued this evening. We look forward to having Mr. Mueller testify, as do all Americans,” Chairman Jerrold Nadler said on Tuesday evening.
Last month during a brief presser, Robert Mueller announced he is retiring from the Justice Department and that he will not be testifying to Congress.
“I hope and expect this to be the only time that I will speak to you in this manner. I am making that decision myself. No one has told me whether I can or should testify or speak further about this matter,” Mueller said last month. “There has been discussion about an appearance before Congress — any testimony from this office would not go beyond our report.”
“The work speaks for itself — and the report is my testimony. I would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before Congress,” Mueller added.
Jay Sekulow told ABC News, “Bob Mueller agreed to testify. He already said his testimony will be his report. We expect his testimony will be the report.”
Sekulow added that he also expects Mueller to have to respond to any irregularities that occurred during his nearly 2-year witch hunt.
Republican lawmakers will certainly ask Mueller about his reliance on Hillary’s phony dossier and all of the corruption and conflicts of interest with his team.
GOP lawmakers will also want to know why Mueller dragged out his investigation past the 2018 midterms even though he knew early on that Trump did not collude with the Russians.
