Senator John McCain’s health appears to be taking a turn for the worst, say sources close to the Arizona lawmaker. In July, McCain was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
“The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4 percent,” reports Tucson.com.
CNN reports:
Sources in the Senate tell CNN they have been worried about Sen. John McCain recently, following a week when the Arizona Republican was kept from the Senate to address side effects from his brain cancer treatment. The sources described McCain as looking increasingly frail and said he has not spoken up in recent GOP meetings the way he had before, in addition to his absence this week for treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center. One source said that McCain always used to speak up in these meetings, and that he hasn’t at all recently. The source was not commenting on McCain’s mental acuity, but on his energy level, and pointing out that his lack of participation was not normal. One well known side effect of cancer treatments is fatigue. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, McCain’s closest friend in the Senate, said he spoke with Cindy McCain on Wednesday about her husband’s health.
Despite his illness, McCain has played a key role in thwarting President Trump’s agenda. The Republican Senator voted against a ‘skinny,’ repeal of Obamacare despite campaigning to do the very opposite.
In a 2016 re-election campaign ad, McCain branded himself a leader in the fight against Obamacare.
McCain also played a key role in disseminating the ‘Trump dossier.’
Fusion GPS Co-founder Glenn Simpson personally gave Senator John McCain (R-AZ) a copy of the now discredited dossier. Earlier reports suggested that McCain was made aware of the dossier from British associates, but was never in possession of the document’s final draft.
“It has been previously reported that McCain was aware of the dossier before it was published by BuzzFeed on Jan. 10. He was told of its existence in Nov. 2016 by Sir Andrew Wood, a former British ambassador and associate of Steele’s. It was also known that a copy was passed to McCain and his associate, David Kramer,” reported Daily Caller‘s Chuck Ross.
Not only did Fusion GPS give McCain a copy of the dossier, but its contents helped spur an arms race of sorts for Trump-Russia collusion stories.
